Submersive Productions will debut “rECHOllection,” an open-air and open-ended theatrical experience next to Latrobe Pavilion in Druid Hill Park on Saturday, November 6th and Sunday, November 7th. The experience, free to all visitors, is a timely production. Running from Wednesday, October 13th – Sunday, October 17th, Disney On Ice: Mickey’s Search Party brings Disney magic to the Royal Farms Arena. Through innovative technology and transformative performances, audiences will experience dynamic, multi-leveled production numbers that make Disney on Ice enjoyable for children of all ages! Everyman Theatre celebrates the return to live, in-person theater with the iconic production of “Steel Magnolias.” Running through September 5th, Everyman’s first production of the 2021-2022 season follows six unique Southern women as they deal with life’s triumphs and tragedies set against the background of a northwestern Louisiana beauty parlor. Among the outstandingly wonderful cast is incomparable Beth Hylton, who plays M’Lynn in the production. Toby’s Dinner Theatre’s production of “Elf: The Musical” wraps up this week after a bringing the spirit of Christmas to the hearts of all theatregoers this summer. Running until Sunday, August 22nd, “Elf: The Musical” is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) celebrates June Pride Month with a special evening of LGBTQ-centric programming beginning at 8PM on Monday, June 28th. Featuring the documentaries of Jeffrey Friedman and Rob Epstein, viewers will enjoy films such as the Oscar-winning “The Times of Harvey Milk” (1984) and the TCM premiere of “Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt” (1989). Friedman and Epstein recently chatted about the upcoming night of programming, their passion for storytelling and the importance of younger generations taking the time to view these crucial films. Baltimore’s newest theatre company, Two Strikes Theatre Collective, recently announced their 2021 season complete with virtual devised works, staged readings of original plays, a podcast, and the second annual Brown Sugar Bake-off play festival. The independent theatre company, founded in July 2019, celebrates, promotes, and encourages the intersectional voice of Black women and how it can be used for social change through art and community engagement. It’s all about gender expression and being fabulous! That’s the tag line for the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington D.C.’s upcoming performance of Genderosity. The performance, which will be a glam rock spectacle celebrating self-expression, was previously scheduled for March 2020, but will now be available from the comfort of your living room. Streaming online from March 13th – March 28th, the performance heralds the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC (GMCW). “The goal was to have a really nice, high energy, colorful, joyful escape from everything else going on,” explained Dr. Thea Kano, Artistic Director of GMCW. As awards season begins to descend upon Hollywood, the theatrical release of the film “Draw With Me” has recently garnered a lot of early Oscar buzz! “Draw With Me” is the story of talented teen artist Brendon Scholl, who identifies as trans non binary. Their art has been a vital outlet for self-expression. From coming out as trans and consequently attempting suicide, to becoming an advocate, this intimate portrait of Brendon and their supportive family’s trials dives deep into what endured and was overcome in this heartwarming journey of acceptance.
