To the delight of Baltimore audiences, HARVEY - a well-known classic in American theatre - comes to life on stage this month at Everyman Theatre.  HARVEY is a comedy about the friendship between Elwood P. Dowd and his best friend Harvey the Pooka – an invisible, six-foot-tall rabbit! When his sister Veta finds his behavior no longer socially acceptable, she tries to place him into a mental institution, only to have a comedy of errors ensue.
Everyman Theatre Resident Company members (and real-life married couple) Megan Anderson and Kyle Prue recently chatted about the performance, balancing real-life and stage-life, and sharing the stage for the first time in 20 years!

Frankie Kujawa: What can audiences expect from this production of HARVEY?
Lots of heart and humor! Also, a gorgeous set, beautiful period clothing, and lights and sound all made right here in Baltimore!

Megan Anderson: Megan, could you please describe your role as Veta in HARVEY?
Megan Anderson: Veta is a Elwood Dowd's big sister. She's a widowed single mother to her teenage daughter Myrtle Mae, and she's kind of a hot mess! Myrtle needs to get married but her Uncle Elwood's reputation for being the town crazy man with the imaginary rabbit friend named Harvey is keeping the boys away. Trouble is, Veta sees Harvey, too! But she can't admit it to society (or herself!) without risking social shame. She learns a few things when her plans to try and change Elwood backfire, and we get to laugh at her and with her and at ourselves. I love her!

Frankie Kujawa: Kyle, could you please describe your role as EJ in HARVEY?
Kyle Prue: E.J. Lofgren is a blue-collar cab driver.

Frankie Kujawa: In your own words, how would you describe working together on a production as both colleagues and spouses?
Megan Anderson: For one thing, we save on gas! And we're keeping similar hours, which doesn't happen often. Most of the time when we collaborate at Everyman, it's with me as actor and Kyle as Producer. [Prue is Everyman's Producing Director as well.] We come at the work from different angles and make different contributions. When we talk about this particular project, we can connect on more than one level about it. And we met as two actors in a play, and haven't acted together in 20 years. So, I look across the stage at Kyle and am reminded each night what a great actor he is and appreciate him in my life all this time!

Frankie Kujawa: Are there any challenges you’ve found to working together and, conversely, could you describe the successes of working together?
Megan Anderson and Kyle Prue: Honestly it's been trickiest just making sure things get done at home! We have two daughters who are both having busy seasons of their own, so keeping everybody's schedule straight is more challenging. But we have a big village and are grateful for the help.  The fact that we can still work together after 20 years is a success!

Frankie Kujawa: Rumor has it that the acting bug has taken off with your children, as well.
Megan Anderson and Kyle Prue: Both of our daughters love the theatre! They've both acted in plays at school. Our youngest likes to write plays and she's also a huge help when it comes to running lines. Our oldest has been bitten HARD and is going to study theatre in college this fall!

Frankie Kujawa: Could you describe the environment that Everyman Theatre has which has helped to foster the creative talent and relationship that you have with each other?
Megan Anderson and Kyle Prue: Everyman has always felt like family, even before we were a family ourselves. Having a Resident Company contributes to this, and it's important to Everyman to take care of the people who work there. We're grateful for our jobs, and that through our work at Everyman, we can keep doing what we love to do while raising a family. It's a hard living, and has a lot of challenges, but it's really rewarding.
