The Golden Gays will bring YULE-tide greetings this December at Baltimore's Motor House. Their holiday show,  "Thank Yule For Being a Friend" will have you traveling down a road and back again to the Motor House stage on Friday, December 2nd at 8PM.  The premier Golden Girls Musical Parody Drag Troupe recently chatted about their upcoming performance.
What can audiences expect from this performance of The Golden Gays at Baltimore's Motor House on December 2nd?
They can expect a Golden Girls Holiday Musical Adventure. Its The Golden Girls meets Twas The Night Before Christmas meets a Christmas Carol meets RuPaul’s Drag Race Grandma vs. The World. At the Baltimore performance the role of Sophia will be played by local influencer Maria Buckingham of @CharmCity_Glam.

Could you talk a little about the inspiration to create this performance?
We had created two musical musicals, Off Broadway’s Hot Flashbacks- the adventure to find Sophia and The Golden Games, a game show for pride. Then we were inspired to create our 3rd musical, "Thank YULE For Being Friend." We pay homage to the two Christmas episodes of The Golden Girls and we even give a nod to The Golden Palace.

What might audiences be most surprised about putting on a show such as this?
This is a fully stage live singing Broadway style musical. In the case of Baltimore, not only did we create the show and Star in the show…we also produce, promote and sell the tickets.

Why do you think The Golden Girls has such an enduring legacy, especially within the LGBTQ community?
Because it’s about chosen family. In the LGBTQ community we often choose our families and the Golden Girls did just that. The writers weren’t afraid to address queer story lines. Cross dressers, gay siblings, lesbian best friends, AIDS scare and this quotation from Sophia in the episode, Isn’t It Romantic: “I’ll tell you the truth, Dorothy. If one of my kids was gay, I wouldn’t love him one bit less. I would wish him all the happiness in world!”
